Dear Linwood Family and Friends,
Greetings from somewhere between Haines and Juneau, Alaska.
This is being sent from my iPad, so it may look a little different. Jan and I are now five days into our Alaskan adventure. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be away from Linwood for a few weeks early in the season. I have thought of you – at least occasionally!
While I am away, I am eager for you to get to know Tom Madden better. Tom has preached at Linwood several times and has filled in for me with the midweek Bible Studies. This summer Tom is going to be sharing with me in a number of pastoral functions. He will be preaching this Sunday, assisting in worship a number of Sunday’s, and getting the Thursday morning Bible study going until I return. These are all things Tom does very well. However, Tom will also be doing something that he does FANTASTICALLY – and that is being available to you, getting to know you, and talking with you about life and faith.
People expect their pastors to do everything well – be a charismatic preacher, a sympathetic listener, an inspirational leader, a humble servant, a gifted counselor, an effective organizer and manager, a conscientious churchman….(should I go on?). One of God’s greatest gifts to me was the team that He assembled to lead the ministry at Bay Presbyterian. So many of them had skills in their particular areas of ministry that far exceeded mine. Tom was an amazing member of that team. It is a joy for me to again be sharing in ministry with him. I am also thrilled that you will get to know Tom, and he will get to know you.
Well, it is time to get back to the mountains. Alaska is … awesome … majestic … vast … gorgeous … and yet it is but a tiny example of the power and majesty and wonder of God.
Blessing in Christ,
Hu Auburn, Linwood Park Pastor
