Dear Linwood Family and Friends,
Grace and peace to all of you. The new Linwood season is just about here! This Sunday we have out first service of the summer – 10:45 a.m. in the Chapel. I hope you can be there. It always feels like a family reunion.
You may – or may not – have noticed, but this year we are graced with 16 Sundays between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day weekend – instead of the usual 15. Memorial Day is unusually early (May 25) and Labor Day is unusually late ((September 7). Let’s call this our “Leap Season.”
Just a quick word on our theme for the summer. This is will our second summer talking about “Faith, Family, and Friendship.” Last year the focus was on “Faith,” and this year the focus will be on “Faith and Family.”
“Faith, Family, and Friendship” has been descriptive of the basic tenets of Linwood from its very beginning. It has struck me that for much of its history those tenets have been very “mainstream” – values affirmed, desired, and sought by much of our culture. That is no longer the case! There are alarming (at least to me) statistics about changing views in this country on religion and family. And, friendships are being defined in very different terms in the digital age.
How are we impacted and how do we respond to these changes as Christians? In what way do traditional views need to be re- assessed? In what places are the traditional views based upon the Lord’s design and purposes and need to be upheld?
There are LOTS of good things for us to explore together – and there is no better place for the exploration than Linwood!
Look forward to seeing you soon.
Blessings in Christ,
Hu Auburn, Park Pastor
